Haircare Product Reviews! And $3 off coupon for Aveeno

Hope everyone's weekend is off to a great start! Today I'm going to switch it up a tad and review a couple of haircare products.

First up...

Aveeno Nourish and Dandruff Control Shampoo & Conditioner

I've never had a problem with dandruff or a dry scalp. I always had a pretty oily scalp so when I started experiencing an itchy scalp after having my son (I'm guessing it's my hormones trying to get everything back to normal), I had no idea how to treat it.  First I tried moisturizing shampoos... but all that did was weigh down my hair.  Then I tried conditioning hair masks.  Again, weighed down my hair.

Finally, I received an offer from Smiley360 to try and review Aveeno's Nourish and Dandruff Control line free of cost. I accepted right away!

Both the shampoo and conditioner smell great. After only a few days of using, not only was my itchy scalp gone but my hair is also visibly healthier and feels so much softer.  Thumbs up from this girl!

Sunsilk Blonde Bombshell Color Boost, for Highlighters

Image: Amazon.com
If you read my Summer Beauty Product Reviews you know that I am on a mission to find a hair lightener that is also a conditioner. That's why I was SO excited to find this product.

I'm pretty sure Sunsilk's Blonde Bombshell line is discontinued, but I came across this on Amazon.com and hoped it was exactly what I was looking for.  Here's how to use this product.  In the shower, after shampooing hair, wring excess water out of your hair and apply Sunsilk's Blonde Bombshell for Highlighters from root to tip.  Leave on for a maximum of 5 minutes then rinse out.  You can skip using conditioner since this product acts as a conditioning mask.

The bad news? This product didn't make my hair any more vibrant or any lighter. ...It actually darkened my hair. My hair was medium blonde with light blonde highlights. This product not only darkened my highlights to a honey blonde, but it also darkened my medium blonde hair to a dark blonde. Luckily it washes out after 4 washes.

Now that we got the bad out of the way, lets talk about what I liked about the product. It is SO easy to use and extremely convenient. It also smells really great. The conditioning aspect was also one of the best I've used.  Each time I left the product on for 5 minutes. Once I rinsed, I immediately noticed my hair was softer and more manageable. If I could find this without the color, as a conditioner only, I would definitely use it monthly.

Overall, this product wasn't what I was looking for and my disappointment is partly due to my own high hopes.  It may work for those who have dark blonde hair or medium blonde highlights. The conditioning aspect is top notch and would be great without the color.

My search for the perfect hair lightening product continues!

  1. I am on the same search for a great hair lightening product and will check in often to see if you find one! For many, many years I used L'Oreal Summer Soleil all over lightener. It was wonderful. After it was discontinued I used Clairol's Light Cool Beach Blonde all over lightener. Now I can't find anything like those products anywhere!! I did try the John Freida spray and it is the first highlighter product I have ever used that really damaged my hair. I am just using Sun-In spray occasionally now, but it doesn't lighten like the all over lighteners did. Hoping you find THE ONE!
