The Closet Nightmare

My closet has been driving nuts since the day we moved in.  You see, we moved in the middle of my pregnancy.  Luckily, my husband has amazing friends so I did not have to even be present for the move.  However, I knew my closet would be a problem before we even finished packing.  Here's why.

I have a lot of clothing.  A lot. And I always feel like I don't have anything to wear (yeah, I'm one of those girls.)  In our previous house the closet was HUGE.  I mean, it could've been it's own room. So what do I do? Fill it up of course!  So before we moved I cleaned out my closet and got rid of close a quarter of what I had.  Then I didn't organize the closet once we moved because... well... I couldn't wear those clothes anyway (I was already in maternity sizes.) I was too exhausted to do anything other than work and get ready for the baby. So it sat there for months. Untouched. Then my son was born, I lost my baby weight but the shape of my body changed (I am happy about the change, for the record.) So I then started buying clothing that would flatter my new body type. And it just got worse and worse until my closet looked like this.

AH! Such a mess! Everything is so squished together. I couldn't see what I had in there!  Not to mention some things would be a total wrinkled mess once I pulled them out.  So I decided to finally take control of my close and purchase this organizer below. I got it off of Amazon.com for under $30.  It's VERY easy to put together.  If I can do it without help, believe me, it's easy.  This is small enough to be placed in a closet but I am keeping this outside of my closet since we have a little empty corner in our bedroom.

I also took the time to try on any clothing I wasn't sure about and get rid of anything I knew I wouldn't be wearing.  After a full day of organizing my closet now looks like this.  I still have some work to do. I have to get drawers to put in the organizer and go through my shoes and purses.  But I am very relieved to get the bulk of it done!

I used my nifty new purchase to hang most of my dresses and some of my small cardigans.

I can't wait to get the drawers and finish up!

VMA Fashions - A 20-Something Mother's Take

Gotta love the VMA'S. It always gives us something to talk about and it gives celebs a chance to take fashion risks. The older I get, the more confused I am about how some fashion risks turn into fashion trends.  Now... I have [somewhat] come to terms with the fact that I'm getting older and not as "cool" when it comes to the teen trends (mustaches on everything?! What is that about?!) Actually the moment I began feeling confused with certain trends was like a bolt of lightening hit me.  I'm a mom... I'm getting old... and then came a montage of my parents saying "I don't get it" to things that I loved and were once "in."

However, I am still in my 20's so I can't be completely over the threshold, right? ...I'm hoping the answer is "Right!"  So here is a 20-something mom's take on the 2013 VMA fashions.

Selena Gomez

I actually really like Selena's outfit.  I LOVE the hooks on the side and I like that although she is showing skin (and it looks like she is in the middle of getting undressed) she has enough covered that it doesn't look trashy.  It is sophisticated while still being young and "rock and roll." I also love how she kept her hair and accessories relatively simple and her makeup is flawless.

Taylor Swift

Taylor's dress is beautiful. It's classy, simple and fits her perfectly.  I think it's a little too formal for the VMA's though.  I wasn't the biggest fan of her hair and makeup.  It's a little too much for me. It would've been a great look for the Grammy's but I think she should've been a little less "done" and less "safe" for the VMA's.

Ariana Grande

Ariana looks cute and feminine in her mini dress.  I love her hair and makeup, however this is how she always has it done.  If something's not broken don't fix it, right?

Jennifer Hudson

I think the flair at the waist is what keeps me from loving this outfit.  What I find appealing about this dress how it hugs her body and curves.  The fabric hanging from her waist seems to mess with the flow of the dress. Other than that, I think her hair could have been a little softer but it's not something that I dislike.

Miley Cyrus

I like the 90s throwback, the diamond necklace needs to go... but overall ...I'm having an "I'm a mom...I'm getting older" moment...

Ciara

I find this look beautifully feminine.  I am a little biased though.  I fell in love with this style of dress (mesh with appliques) when Halle Berry wore her gorgeous dress (that I still want) at the Academy Awards in 2002.  That being said, this does feel very familiar. Like something we've seen before, which keeps it from being a favorite. But Ciara looks gorgeous, I love how the dress falls on her, and I love how statuesque she looks.

Elle Goulding

This is my FAVORITE look of the evening.  I love how her dress is the perfect combo of trendy, edgy, and classy.  Her hair and makeup look effortlessly perfect and keep her dress from looking like it's "too much."

JWoww

JWoww's makeup and hair look overdone for this event. Her dress also reminds me of a prom/pageant dress. Sorry, JWoww.

Snooki

See my comments for J-Woww.  Maybe these two besties got ready together.

Holland Roden

This is one of those looks that you either love or hate.  I LOVE it.  I like that it's different and I find it very pretty and appropriate for the VMA's.  Holland's makeup makes her look like a doll, which oddly enough works for her.

Katy Perry

I normally LOVE Katy Perry.  But I was not into this look.  I don't like the dress and I don't understand what is sewn onto the bust, collar, and arms of her dress.  I like the longer version of the dress better(see Coco Rocha wearing the dress here.)  I usually look forward to Katy Perry's red carpet looks so I was disappointed.  I do love her very clean, fresh make-up but I am not a fan of the severe pony tail.

[Most of] Danity Kane

I like how these ladies coordinated their clothing.  Nothing really stands out to me, except that Aubrey's dress (third from the left) is too short.

Erin Wasson

... If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?  Simply put this is another "I don't get it" look for me.  The "dress" is not flattering, her makeup doesn't do it for me, and I don't get the hair. Maybe it's a "high fashion" look that doesn't translate well to the red carpet?

Shailene Woodley

I really like Miss Woodley makeup!  It's beautiful, not over the top, and still age appropriate.  Her outfit is pretty but this is another trend I don't fully get.  It doesn't feel like the pieces go together to me but I know this is just a me getting old thing and not seeing the newest teen trends.

 Sarah Hyland

I have to say it... Her dress reminds me of Iron Man.  Do you see it? I'm not a fan of how her hair is done but I do like her makeup.

Clean Mommy

Cleaning. Ugh. I really do not like it (Does anyone?!)  But I like my house to be clean so I have to do it.  Once I became pregnant with my son, one of the first things I realized was I most likely wouldn't be able to safely use most of my cleaning products around my little one.

Thank goodness so many companies are coming out with safer, more natural cleaners.  I was presented with the opportunity to try some cleaning products from a company called CleanWell and jumped at the chance.

CleanWell's products are made of botanical disinfectants, contain no harsh chemicals, and kill 99.9% of germs.  Meaning, these products are safer to use around children and animals than traditional cleaners.

I received CleanWell's  All-Natural Hand Sanitizer Spray and their Botanical Disinfectant Wipes. The first thing I noticed about both of these products is their fresh natural lemon scent.  I don't mean the "lemon scent" that most cleaners have.  You know, that scent that we associate with lemons even though that's not exactly how lemons really smell (just like grape flavored candy tastes NOTHING like grapes...) These cleaners actually smell like the lemons that grow in my parents' backyard.

The first product I tried was the hand spray.  I LOVE this spray.  It's quick, easy, feels great, and is not heavily perfumed (Ever put use other hand sanitizers and have someone scrunch up their nose and ask "did you just spray something?!" immediately after?) It's also small enough to fit in my pocket or purse.  It's alcohol free (no stinging cuts!) and it leaves my skin soft.

Completely satisfied with the hand spray, I then went to try the wipes. I usually use wipes that contain bleach or chemicals to wipe down my son's toys that can not be submerged in water.  Of course, after using wipes with chemicals in it, I then have to rinse the toys with water.  Same goes for when I use them on my counters.  It's a whole extra step for something that is a "quick solution."  SO when I read that there was no need to rinse after using the CleanWell wipes, I was VERY happy.  Every little bit of time saved counts to a mom!

Overall I love these CleanWell products and have been using them instead of the products I normally use.  I plan on switching over to CleanWell products since they are just as effective,a whole lot safer for my son, and just as affordable as well!

Double thumbs up!

VMA Edition

I have an announcement to make.  I officially feel like I'm 15 years old again.  And I have MTV to thank for that. Yep, that's right.

*Nsync is rumored to be performing at the VMA's tonight.  And for the first time in over 10 years, I'm stoked for them.  But now I have DVR.  So I don't have to watch them live AND I can fast forward to the performances.

My most memorable VMA's was in 2000.  Mainly because of these two performances.

AND

Oh yes.  At one point in time I was a full blown teeny bopper. And although I grew out of it within a few years, I will always love *Nsync.  That's just the way it is.

Rewatching those performances took me down memory lane.

In the year 2000...

Fashion Magazine Party Look

I don't normally post too much about events in my life on here but I wanted to share this with you all.  I post tips, techniques, and trends when it comes to fashion and beauty but I have yet to show you an example from my own life.

Last night I attended Orlando Style Magazine's 10 Year Anniversary Party and realized this is the perfect opportunity to show such an example.  Orlando Style Magazine is dedicated to fashion trends, events, and designers.  They also cover travel, health and influential people both locally and nationally.

Now, as I've stated before, I normally do not wear a full face of makeup on a normal day.  Usually my beauty routine consist of cleanser, moisturizer, concealer, blush, and mascara.  Sometimes a tinted moisturizer if I'm not happy with the tone of my skin.  But on night out - like last night - I tend to go all out.

And the achieved look is

The products I used

MAC Prep & Prime Primer
MAC Select Moisturecover Concealer
Maybelline 24 Hour SuperStay Concealer
MAC Studio Fix Foundation Powder
MAC Powder Blush in Fleur Power
Mono Eyeshadow Pallette (Light Beige)
MAC Eyeshadow in Honey Lust
MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy (My favorite eyeliner of all time)
Maybelline  Colossal Volum' Express Mascara in Glam Black
Younique 3D Fiber Lashes
Benefit Benetint (on lips)
Noya Vanilla Lip Balm

A lot more than my usual, huh?

Steps

First I took a makeup sponge and applied 2 pumps of the primer on all over my face.

Then I used the MAC concealer under my eyes and on my eyelids up to my brow.  This concealer is a much lighter shade than my skin - which is usually a no-no. But in my case I inherited my mother's very dark eyelids and I also have a dark complexion under my eyes - that looks like dark circles no matter how much sleep I get. (So makeup really is all about experimenting and knowing what works best for you.)

Next I used the Maybelline concealer to cover up any redness or imperfections.  I also make it a point to cover the corners of my mouth and nose.  This concealer matched my skin tone.

Then I used a powder puff to apply the MAC powder foundation evenly all over my face and blend into my neck.

I again applied MAC concealer to the inner corners of my eyes - using it as a highlighter.

I then applied the MAC blush to the apples of my cheeks and a little teeny tiny bit to the bridge of my nose and then blended.

I used the Mono light beige eyeshadow as a base for my entire eyelid up to my brow line.  Then used a brush and applied the MAC eyeshadow to just the lid.

I then wet an angled eyeshadow brush and used it to apply the MAC eyeshadow as an eyeliner under my eye.

I lined my top eyelid (at the lash line) with the MAC eyeliner and lined the inner rims of my eyes making sure to fill in the spaces between my lashes and letting a little bit of the liner smudge just beneath my lower lash line

Finally I applied my mascara and then Younique's 3D Fiber Lashes.

At the last minute I decided to use Benetint on my lips, let it dry and then apply the lip balm over it.

Whew! What a process!

Finally it was time to get dressed
