Taking Care of Your Skin in the Summer Months

Being out in the sun can cause a lot of damage to your skin, especially during the summer. This damage can cause skin cancers, freckles, age spots, actinic keratosis, actinic cheilitis, moles, and wrinkles. Even tans are considered to be skin damage. Don't let this completely ruin your summer fun though, as there are precautions you can take to protect yourself from the sun's harmful rays.
The most important step you can take to protect your skin from the sun is to always use sunscreen. Another tip is to wear a hat! Wearing wide brimmed hats can help by shading your eyes and face from the sun and keeping those pesky skin damage causing rays at bay.
You also may be temped to run to the store and get a summer skin mask. However these products are full of chemicals that no one should be putting anyway near their bodies. But don’t worry there is a solution! The experts from Skana spa of the New York resort Turning Stone have sent us this recipe for a chemical free homemade skin mask that can be made in minutes using ingredients you probably have lying around your kitchen.
What You Need
1/4 cup of freshly squeezed tomato juice with pulp
1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lime juice
1 cup of mashed avocado
In a bowl, combine ingredients. Mix them together to form a thick creamy green mask. TIP: If you find the tomato mask is too runny for you, add a teaspoon of cornstarch or honey.
Next, rinse face with warm water. Pat your face dry and apply a generous layer of the creamy mask to your face. The mask will give cool, tingly sensation to your skin and may sting a little bit at first. Reason being, is the mask is ridding the dead layers of skin from your face.
Once the mask is on, leave it on for 35-40 minutes. After the time is up, rinse your face off with warm water and then again with cold water after to close your pores back up.
This skin mask recipe is amazing because it is quick and easy to make, all natural and safe from chemicals, leaves your skin feeling soft and fresh, and it's perfect for a day at the beach! The tomato juice can treat overactive oil producing glands. Lime juice is great for grease, pimples, and blackheads. And the avocado makes for a great moisturizer!
