August Obsessions/Favorites

The last of the Summer months is just about over!  And while I know some of you may be mourning the end of the Summer season, I am happily looking forward to Fall.  Lots of new fashion and beauty trends are on their way and I can't wait!  But for now, here are my favorite products that I discovered this past month.

1. Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal

This product has been out for awhile and I've always heard great things. So I finally got around to trying it for myself... and I must admit... I love it.  It is a tinted lip balm with a shimmer.   It goes on so smooth and silky!  The color Mirrored Mauve is my favorite.

2. Olay Total Effects Pore Minimizing CC Cream

This is a new product by Olay that I just HAD TO try right away.  I love Olay products in general so I was excited to try this CC cream.  It goes on smooth, not too matte, not too dewy, and looks very natural with a great amount of coverage.

3.  Huggies Natural Care Baby Wipes Portable Pouch

This pouch saves so much space in my bag! AND it makes it easier to grab one wipe at a time. I replaced my Petunia Pickle Bottom Case with this pouch and I've loving it.

4.  MAC Fluidline Eye Pencil in Metropolis

I normally don't wear gray eye makeup... but this eye kohl changed my mind. It creates a beautiful smokey eye that easily transfers from day to night.

5.  Maybelline Volum' Express The Rocket Waterproof Mascara
This is another product that I've heard about for awhile and has received praise from fellow beauty bloggers, consumers, and beauty experts.   If you're like me, constantly rubbing your eyes, forgetting you have eye makeup on; Only to go from perfectly posh to raccoon'll love this mascara. It has volume and stays put.  It IS hard to remove at the end of the day, but that's part of the appeal when you're looking for a one time application/all day product

6. What Up Moms - Youtube Channel

This channel gained attention for their Iggy Azalea "Fancy" parody, "I'm so pregnant."  But I think there are many other videos on this channel that are just as worthy of attention.  These ladies create DIY and humor videos making the entire channel entertaining, relatable, and quirky.

MAC: A Novel Romance

The fabulous people at MAC have been busy creating new collections for all of us beauty queens this year and the bar is being set higher and higher as each new collection comes out.  The latest collection to hit the market, A Novel Romance, is a sultry, romantic array of products.  Eyes, lips, nails; there is everything you need for a dramatic date night look in this collection... which is now my new favorite.

The golds, bronzes, plums, and glimmering blacks of this collection are complimented by its soft sands and pinks with small touches of brights here and there.  The colors in this collection are not only great for the upcoming Fall season, but also a great addition to any year-round look.

The "A Novel Romance" lip products are exceptional.  My favorite is the Lipglass in "Bared for you."  It is the perfect shade of nude to wear alone or over a bold color. The contrasting "Talk Sexy"  Lipglass is great for Fall with its dark, rich purple color with a copper shimmer.  Definitely very dramatic.  An alternative to the "Talk Sexy" lipglass is "Lingering Kiss," a deep plum red matte lipstick.  All of the lip products are, of course, highly pigmented and of supreme quality.

This collect also has its own nail colors. Dark colors reign in this collection of brilliant nail lacquer.  My favorite is "Midnight Storm."   Deep magenta in color, this nail lacquer is a trendy and popular shade for the cooler Autumn days.

And last, but certainly not least, "A Novel Romance" Eyes collection will help every lady achieve her most seductive "come hither" look or a very tender "damsel in distress" gaze.  The fluidline eye pencil is one of my favorite MAC products due to its soft, easy to apply texture combined with the ultimate staying power you would expect from MAC cosmetics.   Atomic Ore definitely seems like a product for the more bold with its metallic, gold color.  But this pencil can also be used for a softer look when blended with nudes, bronzes, and browns.
Metropolis, a deep metal gray, is the product you want to achieve a smoldering, smokey eye look. The gray has a way of also softening the look for those who feel black is too harsh against their skin tone.

For those who love some black in their eye makeup,  Blacklit Electric Cool Eye Shadow is a perfect match.  Black with multidimensional pearl, this eyeshadow does not fall flat and leaves eyes looking enticingly rich with temptation.

A Novel Romance has many, many more colors and products to offer and is without a doubt one of the must have collections for this Fall.  Find it online now or find it at the counters and boutiques tomorrow, 8/21!

Ipsy... I'm leaving you! ...Again... [Video]

Hi everyone!

I wanted to do a video this week since that was my format for my Ipsy reviews way back when!  Yes, I resubscribed. And then I cancelled again.  Find out what is going on (and how I quickly skipped the wait list) in my video below.

5 Beauty Products to Beat the No Sleep

Whether your lack of sleep is due to a busy work or school schedule, a restless little one, or a fun night out, not getting your beauty rest happens to all of us at one point or another.  But just because you may feel tired, doesn't mean you have to look tired.  Here are some beauty products that can help you fake that rested look.

1. Eye Roll-on Gel

I've used both the Simple and e.l.f. versions of this product and both worked for me.  Its an easy, quick step to soothe and depuff tired eyes leaving them looking refreshed.

Simple Revitalizing Eye Roll on ($10.99,

e.l.f. Studio Eye Refresh ($3,

2. A Great Concealer

Your eyes may not be puffy anymore... but those dark circles... they stuck around.  Using a great under eye concealer is essential to pulling off a fresh faced look when you're longing to hit the sheets.  Make sure the concealer doesn't produce a cakey texture under your eyes.  That look is anything but natural.

MAC Select MoistureCover ($19,

Maybelline SuperStay 24hr Wear Concealer ($7.29

3. Blush

0 color in your cheeks is often a dead giveaway for tired skin.  Add a slight flush to your face using very a easily blended blush in a natural color.

MAC Powder Blush ($22,

COVERGIRL Clean Glow Blush ($7.79,

4. Eye Opening Mascara

Mascara is one of the top makeup products that can take you from "just rolled out of bed" to "awake and ready!"  Mally Beauty's Volumizing Mascara is a great product that seems to open up eyes and give them a brightened look.  (Don't ask me how... I'm still trying to figure that out myself.)

Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara ($20,

Maybelline Volum' Express Mega Plush Mascara ($7.99,

5. DIY Coffee Mask

I've already covered the benefits of using a coffee scrub.  But for those who don't use scrubs on the daily or simply don't want to switch up their daily beauty routine, this face mask is a great option.  It takes a little more time but only needs to be done once every 1-2 weeks.  Just apply to your face and leave on for about 20 minutes before rinsing.  I've included the recipe below.

DIY Brightening Coffee Mask

4 tablespoons of finely ground coffee
1/4 cup of whole milk
1 tablespoon of honey

From Office Girl To WAHM (Work At Home Mom)

This is another one of those rare posts that is actually about my life (don't worry there are beauty and fashion subjects in here as well!)
Workspace Before Baby
Workspace After Baby
Obviously, my life changed once I had my son.  But people seem to be the most curious about how my work life changed.  I am a Stay At Home / Work From Home mom.  And it is definitely the biggest blessing to be able to work from home and raise my son full time.  I am very grateful to have clients that allow me to work at my own pace (to a certain extent of course) and do my work around caring for my son, instead of the other way around.

Of course, the work setting has changed.  I no longer have to get up to get ready and go into the office.  But that doesn't mean I sleep in.  I still get up pretty early (before the sun comes up some days) with my son and I'm pretty much working - in one form or another - until we go to bed.  There are no breaks, there isn't an hour lunch set aside for me to savor a meal, and there really aren't any days off.
Not just in the "I'm a mom, I don't get a day off," sense.  But also in the "I work for 7 days a week to get a fair amount of writing done and submitted at the end of the week." After all, if I don't have anything to submit, I don't get paid.

Before Baby Work Outfit

Typical Outfit After Baby
Of course, the perks of working at home are pretty great.  I pretty much wear a tank, shorts, and flip flops every day (yoga pants and VS Pink T-shirt during the colder seasons.)  I also don't have to be confined to one desk, one room, or even one building to get work done.  As long as I have my computer (and as long as my son is occupied or being watched by someone else) I can tackle my work load.  My beauty routine has also changed drastically.  I used to wear a full face of makeup when going into the office.  (Lets not count the pregnancy months... then I pretty much wore whatever was the most comfortable and couldn't even finish applying makeup to my face before having to rinse it off after getting sick.)  Now I pretty much wear concealer, lippy and blush... and maybe, MAYBE mascara.  This has allowed my skin to breathe and "just be" leaving me with more manageable (but not perfect) skin.

Before Baby MakeupAfter Baby Daiy Makeup

It is a big change.  I do sometimes miss the "team environment" of working in an office.  And you know... being around adults.  But this is definitely what works best for my family and I right now.  And I am forever grateful that I have such amazing clients and am able to still be at home with my son while I work.
