Mommy's Survival Kit

Here are some baby products that have helped me during my parenting adventure.  Every child is different, but this is what worked for us.  Keep checking back, this will be updated as I discover more products!

Jeep Cherokee Sport Stroller - Cobalt

Now that my son is older and much bigger, it can be difficult pushing him around in a bulky stroller when trying to make quick trips. We went to a theme park recently and I was exhausted after a few hours. I couldn't understand why until my husband pointed out that the entire time I was probably pushing around 50lbs between the weight of my son and his stroller. This is why I LOVE this stroller. Its under $100 (we got it for $49 at Walmart) and its light (under 12lbs), easy to maneuver yet sturdy - even through grass- and still has a tray for him to have his juice and snack. I especially love the extended canopy - perfect for sunny days.

Fisher-Price Healthy Care Booster

I bought this on a whim because it was on sale for a very low price- and it ended up being one of my must haves. For under $25, this portable high chair is perfect for trips to homes of family and friends who don't have baby gear at their home. I love how compact and portable it is and have taken it with me to special outings "just in case." (Just in case my big boy doesn't fit comfortably in a restaurant's high chair, just in case there aren't high chair's available at a friend's party etc. ) My son doesn't seem to mind the fact that its not cushioned and even though he is very large for his age, he fits with room to grow.

Skip Hop Versa Diaper Bag

Now that my son is older, he doesn't need as much "stuff" for quick outings. So I got tired of lugging around a HUGE diaper bag for no reason. So after some research, I decided on the Skip Hop Versa. You can get it on Amazon for a lot less than retail (if you stalk the prices for a few months and are flexible on the design you get.) I love this bag because it has a top zipper closure, separate zippered outside compartment for diapers, 2 zippered insulated bottle pockets on the front of the bag and... ready for this? Its expandable! Meaning, you can unzip the horizontal zipper in the middle of this bag and it becomes 20% larger. Unfortunately, I have already broken the zipper of the outside diaper section (Hi, my name is Candice... and I can accidentally break anything) so my bag isn't as functional as it once was.

Sesame Street DVD - Singing with the Stars

I almost didn't put this on here, but I thought "Hey, I've used this DVD more than any of the others I've bought." Not only does my son love this DVD (and it keeps him entranced the entire time) but because the entire DVD is a compilation of popular music artists from the 90s to today singing with Sesame Street characters, its easier (sometimes even fun) for my husband and I to sit through as well. I love James Blunt's "My Triangle"(because I think its so silly), Will I Am's "What I am", and one that seems to be everyone's favorite "Time to Say Goodnight" with Andrea Boccelli.

Our Must Haves

My Little Lamb Cradle N' Swing by Fisher Price

This is the only place my son would sleep for months. Unfortunately, he has grown out of it but we absolutely LOVED this swing.

Robopax DreamMover

We were desperate to find something to replace the above swing.  Most swings have a max weight limit of 30lbs.  We're lucky we found this on Amazon! You put your stroller, infant to toddler rocker, or car seat on this and it moves back and forth. I don't know why this isn't more popular!

Sleepgowns, Snap down

When you're getting up every few hours to feed and change a baby, the last thing you want to do is mess around with the legs of pjs or even an outfit during the day.  Our son wore this style of sleepgowns for the first 2 months of his life.

Avent Pacifiers

These are the only pacifiers my son would take. They calmed him when he was younger

  3. Survival Things Our Great-Grandfathers Built Or Did Around The House

People really should avert their gaze from the modern survival thinking for just a bit and also look at how folks 150 years ago did it.

These guys were the last generation to practice basic things-for a living-that we call survival skills now.
